The present invention provides methods and compositions relating to cytomegalovirus (CMV) latent transcripts, latency-associated polypeptides and antibodies directed against such polypeptide. The polypeptides are encoded by CMV DNA sequences and are produced specifically during latent infection. Also provided are methods of detecting CMV in a sample, particularly CMV in a latent state. The methods include RT-PCR-based methods and immunodiagnostic methods.

L'invention concerne des procédés et des compositions relatives aux produits de transcription latents du cytomégalovirus (CMV), des polypeptides associés à la latence et des anticorps dirigés contre ce polypeptide. Lesdits polypeptides sont codés par des séquences d'ADN du CMV et sont produits spécifiquement pendant une infection latente. L'invention porte également sur des méthodes de détection du CMV dans un échantillon, et particulièrement du CMV à l'état latent. Lesdites méthodes sont, entre autres, des méthodes basées sur la PCR/transcription inverse et d'immunodiagnostic.
