A lateral force resisting system includes a rigid structural panel (2, 530, 650) and holdowns (6, 8, 600). A foundation bolt placement template (14) may be used to locate and support the foundation bolts (10, 12, 203, 204) during fabrication of the foundation (4) and to further secure the frame foundation interface. The rigid structural panels (530) may be a vertical truss or a rigid structural frame (531) with a wooden panel (532) covering one side and interconnecting the members of the rigid structural frame (531). The wooden panel may be made up of multiple panes (654A, 654B, 654C) to tailor the response of the panel (650) to the lateral force load. The holdowns (6, 8, 600) secure the rigid structural panel to the foundation bolts (10, 12, 203, 204) and may be either a folded strap (212, 214) and pin embodiment or self- tightening.
