The invention aims at providing highly reliable zinc oxide varistors through simple production steps. The varistor is produced by dispersing a powdery raw material comprising 1-40 molar % (in terms of Fe2O3) iron, 0-20 molar % (in terms of Bi2O3) bismuth, and the balance consisting of SiO2 in a solution of a water-soluble binder such as polyvinyl alcohol, and applying the formed dispersion to a molded or calcined zinc oxide varistor to form on the lateral face thereof a lateral high-resistance layer (2) containing Zn2SiO4 as the principal ingredient and a solid solution of iron in Zn7Sb2O12 as the auxiliary ingredient.
L'invention concerne un procédé simple de fabrication de varistances en oxyde de zinc qui sont particulièrement fiables. Le procédé de fabrication de la varistance consiste à disperser un matériau brut en poudre contenant 1-40 % en moles de fer (sous la forme Fe¿2?O¿3?), 0-20 % en moles de bismuth (sous la forme Bi¿2?O¿3?), le reste étant du SiO¿2?, dans une solution aqueuse d'un liant hydrosoluble tel que l'alcool polyvinylique, à appliquer la dispersion formée sur une varistance en oxyde de zinc moulé ou calciné pour former sur la face latérale de celle-ci une couche latérale à haute résistance (2) contenant du Zn¿2?SiO¿4? comme composant principal et une solution solide de fer dans du Zn¿7?Sb¿2?O¿12? comme composant auxiliaire.
