ABSTRACT OF HE DISCLOSURE A cross country ski boot is adapted to fit into a device carrying a plate with preferably one, two or more parallel longitudinal ribs has corresponding parallel depres- sions in the sole. These ribs engage in the depressions and provide lateral guidance for the cross country ski boot, specifically during descents. Movement of the boot with respect to the ski is not impeded during cross country skiing, neither special engagement or disengagement being necessary.
