A tip for mounting upon a distal end portion (14) of a flexible elongated light transmitting fiber (16) is provided. An elon- gated body has a distal head portion (24) and has a plurality of flexible legs (26, 28) extending proximally from the head portion. A clamping arrangement (20) is operably associated with the body for urging the legs radially inward to clamp the distal end por- tion (14) of the fiber therebetween. The mounting arrangement is particularly suited for use with laterally reflecting tips, and such a tip has a lateral passageway (88) providing the ability to flush fluid across the reflecting surface (38) of the tip in order to keep the same clean. Improved reflecting surfaces are also disclosed.
