Disclosed is a polymer latex prepared with the aid of a peroxide as a halogen- and sulfur-free molecular weight regulator and a separate polymerization initiator. The polymer latex is to be used for paper coating applications, in particular in the area of odor-sensitive applications (e. g. food packaging). The peroxide has the formula: R-O-O-H, R1-O-O-R2, R1-CO-O-O-CO-R2, R-CO-O-O-H, R1-CO-O-O-R2 or R1-O-CO-O-O-CO-O-R2 in which R is H, alkyl, aryl or aryl- alkyl and R2 is alkyl, aryl or aryl-alkyl. The polymer has a glass transition temperature of -30°C to +70°C and contains: (A) 10-80% of monovinyl aromatic monomer, (B) 0-70% of conjugated dime monomer, (C) 0-70% of acrylate monomer, and (D) 0-65% of another copolymerizable monomer, provided that the total of (B) and (C) is greater than 0.

On présente un latex polymérique préparé à l'aide d'un peroxyde comme régulateur sans halogène et sans soufre de la masse moléculaire et d'un initiateur distinct de la polymérisation. Le latex polymérique est destiné à des utilisations dans des revêtements pour papier, en particulier dans des applications où l'odeur est un facteur important (p. ex. dans les emballages pour aliments). La formule du peroxyde est la suivante : R-O-O-H, R1-O-O-R2, R1-CO-O-O-CO-R2, R-CO-O-O-H, R1-CO-O-O-R2 ou R1-O-CO-O-O-CO-O-R2, où R est un H, un alkyle, un aryle ou un arylalkyle, et R2 est un alkyle, un aryle ou un arylalkyle. La température de transition vitreuse du polymère est de -30 degrés Celsius à 70 degrés Celsius, et la composition du polymère est la suivante : (A) 10 à 80 % de monomères aromatiques monovinyliques; (B) 0 à 70 % de monomères diènes conjugués; (C) 0 à 70 % de monomères acrylates; (D) 0 à 65 % d'un autre monomère polymérisable, pourvu que le total de (B) etd e (C) soit supérieur à 0.
