A combined launcher and chase toy includes a toroidal toy and a launcher having a resilient, lightweight shaft with a handle at one end and a head at the other. The head has a toy--engaging surface which, in some embodiments, faces forward and catches the inner arcuate surface of the toroidal toy and boosts it forward when the shaft is swung overhand. Optionally, the head has a rear end configured to deflect the toy so that it isn't snagged as it departs. Alternative embodiments of the launcher partially encircle a segment of the toroidal toy with opposed toy-engaging surfaces. Optionally, these toy-engaging surfaces terminate distally in a loading portion which makes it easy to force the toy into engagement with the head. Optionally, the shaft is bent laterally to keep it from interfering with the toy. One embodiment of the launcher has spring-biased rams which engage a hardpoint on the toy.
