A method of launching inflatable airship apparatus (3) for subsequent ascent to high altitude for operation as an airship having a hull (4) formed from an inflated flexible gas containment envelope (5), payload means (15), drive means (6) mounted at the stern of the hull and cable suspension means (26, 27), for supporting the payload means (15) within the hull (4), connected to said drive means (6) and to the hull at, or adjacent to, a nose portion of the hull. The method comprises partially inflating the gas containment envelope (5) with a lighter than air gaseous medium to cause the nose portion to rise within a vertical launch enclosure (10) to position the partially inflated gas containment envelope (5) in a launch position, and subsequently releasing the partially inflated gas containment envelope (5) from its launch position through an open top of the vertical enclosure so that the envelope ascends clear of the vertical enclosure (10) and lifts the payload means (15) and drive means (6) by means of the cable suspension means. The invention also relates to inflatable airship apparatus (3) and to a launch station (2) for launching inflatable airship apparatus.
Procédé de lancement d'un appareil dirigeable gonflable (3) pour l'ascension ultérieure dudit dirigeable en haute altitude. Ledit dirigeable possède une coque (4) formée par une enveloppe (5) souple gonflée destinée à contenir un gaz, un moyen de charge utile (15), un moyen moteur (6) monté à l'arrière de la coque et un moyen de suspension (26, 27) par câbles destiné à soutenir le moyen de charge utile (15) dans la coque (4) et connecté au moyen moteur (6) et à la coque en un site situé sur la partie avant de la coque ou adjacent à cette partie. Ledit procédé consiste à gonfler partiellement l'enveloppe (5) destinée à contenir du gaz avec un milieu gazeux plus léger que l'air afin de provoquer l'élévation de la partie avant à l'intérieur d'une enceinte (10) de lancement verticale pour placer l'enveloppe (5) destinée à contenir du gaz, partiellement gonflée, dans une position de lancement, et à libérer ensuite l'enveloppe (5) partiellement gonflée de sa position de lancement pour la laisser sortir par une partie supérieure ouverte de l'enceinte verticale, si bien que ladite enveloppe monte au-delà de l'enceinte verticale (10) et soulève le moyen de charge utile (15) et le moyen moteur (6) à l'aide du moyen de suspension par câbles. La présente invention concerne également un appareil dirigeable gonflable (3) et une station de lancement (2) destinée à lancer ledit appareil.
