Hydrophobically modified vinyl pyrrolidone polymers which are copolymers having a vinyl pyrrolidone backbone and pendant hydrophobic side chains are useful in laundry detergent compositions to improve detergency and/or antiredeposition. The pendant hydrophobic side chains comprise alkyl chains containing from 4 to 20 carbon atoms and may be linked to the backbone via an ester linkage.

L'invention concerne des polymères de pyrrolidone vinylique à modification hydrophobe qui sont des copolymères possédant un squelette de pyrrolidone vinylique et des chaînes latérales hydrophobes pendantes qui sont utiles dans les compositions de détergent à lessive afin d'améliorer la détergence et/ou l'antiredéposition. Les chaînes latérales hydrophobes pendantes contiennent de préférence des chaînes alkyles contenant 4 à 20 atomes de carbone et peuvent être liées au squelette au moyen d'une liaison d'ester.
