A layered composition which can be used in various processes has been developed. The composition comprises an inner core such as a cordierite core and an outer layer comprising a refractory inorganic oxide, a fibrous component and an inorganic binder. The refractory inorganic oxide layer can be alumina, zirconia, titania, etc. while the fibrous component can be titania fibers, silica fibers, carbon fibers, etc. The inorganic oxide binder can be alumina, silica, zirconia, etc. The layer can also contain catalytic metals such as gold and platinum plus other modifiers. The layered composition is prepared by coating the inner core with a slurry comprising the refractory inorganic oxide, fibrous component, an inorganic binder precursor and an organic binding agent such as polyvinyl alcohol. The composition can be used in various hydrocarbon conversion processes including production of vinyl acetate.
L~invention concerne une composition multicouche qu'on peut utiliser dans différents procédés. La composition comprend un noyau interne tel qu'un noyau de cordiérite et une couche externe comprenant un oxyde inorganique réfractaire, un composant fibreux et un liant inorganique. La couche d'oxyde inorganique réfractaire peut être de l'alumine, de la zircone, de l'oxyde de titane, etc. alors que le composant fibreux peut être des fibres d'oxyde de titane, des fibres de silice, des fibres de carbone, etc. Le liant en oxyde inorganique peut être de l'alumine, de la silice, de la zircone, etc. La couche peut également contenir des métaux catalytiques tels que de l'or et du platine plus d'autres modificateurs. On prépare la composition multicouche en recouvrant le noyau interne d'une boue liquide comprenant l'oxyde inorganique réfractaire, le composant fibreux, un précurseur du liant inorganique et un agent liant organique tel que l'alcool polyvinylique. On peut utiliser la composition dans différents procédés de conversion d'hydrocarbures dont la production d'acétate de vinyle.
