A network element that has a broadcast interface to a broadcast network becoming opera-tional determines whether at least one alternate path exists to the broadcast network. The broadcast interface is to carry traffic on a label switched path. If an alternate path exists, the broad-cast interface will not be advertised to the broadcast network until label dis-tribution protocol (LDP) is opera-tional with all neighbors on the broad-cast interface.
