A coated substrate for plumbing applications in which the leaching of metals into water contacting the substrate is significantly reduced, comprises an alloy having copper as a majority constituent and also comprising tin, zinc and lead; and a coating having a thickness in a range from 0.4 to 1.2 mils upon the substrate, the coating further comprising a mixture of a cationic epoxy resin material and a curing agent for said cationic epoxy resin material. The coating is preferably applied by electrodeposition and then cured by baking in an oven at approximately 400 °F for about twenty minutes.

Substrat pourvu d'un revêtement, utilisable en plomberie et permettant de limiter considérablement la dissolution de métaux dans l'eau venant en contact avec ce substrat. Ce dernier est composé d'un alliage à majorité de cuivre et contenant également de l'étain, du zinc et du plomb et il est recouvert par un revêtement possédant une épaisseur entre 0,4 et 1,2 mils et composé d'un mélange d'une résine époxy cationique et d'un agent durcissant pour ladite résine. On applique, de préférence, ce revêtement par dépôt électrochimique et on le durcit par cuisson dans un four à 400 DEG F pendant vingt minutes.
