Leaks (20) in a pipe (10) are detected by passing through the pipe (10) an apparatus (25) which includes large and small bodies (40, 42) each of which is provided with a pair of pressure sensors spaced in the direction of flows. The pressure signals are used to derive a measure of volumetric flow by deriving measures of pipe diameter and liquid velocity. The pressure signals (or one of them) also provide an indication of localised turbulence. The presence of a leak (20) is assumed by detection of an area of localised turbulence followed downstream by a reduced volumetric flow rate.

On peut détecter les fuites (20) dans des conduites (10) en y faisant passer un appareil (25) comportant des corps larges et étroits (40, 42) munis chacun d'une paire de manomètres espacés dans le sens de la longueur. On déduit des signaux de pression des manomètres et de la vitesse du liquide une mesure du débit volumétrique. Les signaux de pression (ou l'un d'entre eux) fournissent également une indication sur l'emplacement de turbulences. L'existence d'une fuite (20) est révélée par la localisation d'une turbulence liée à une réduction du débit volumétrique en aval.
