ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for the detection of fluid leakage in a cast article having a cavity. The apparatus has sealing means for sealing the cavity of the cast article for creating an inner chamber within the cavity. An enveloping device having an open bottom covers the cast article and creates an annular chamber about the inner chamber. A vacuum can be created within the inner chamber. There is a supply means for penetrating the enveloping means for injecting a probe gas into the annular chamber. There are measuring means in gaseous communication with the gas supplying means for automatically premeasuring a volume of the probe gas delivered to the annular chamber. The premeasured volume of probe gas is determined by the volume of the inner chamber. Valves disposed within the evacuating means control the vacuum in the apparatus and capture a mixture sample from the inner chamber. A detector is in gaseous communication with the inner chamber for analyzing the mixture sample and for detecting the presence of the probe gas. The presence of the probe gas in the mixture sample indicates leakage through the cast article.
