A supplemental intraocular lens (116) is provided for implantation in the eye to modify the lens system of the eye comprising the cornea and the natural lens (106) or an intraocular lens (104) already implanted in the eye, to create a modified lens system having teledioptic or other diffractive capabilities to correct for macular degeneration. To create the teledioptic lens system, the supplemental intraocular lens (116) has substantially no refractive power except for a high minus lens portion at its center. The supplemental intraocular lens (116), when implanted on the natural or previously implanted artificial lens in the eye and used without an external lens, allows light rays entering onto the retina of the eye as they would without the supplemental intraocular lens, thus providing unmagnified and peripheral unrestricted vision.
Cette invention se rapporte à une lentille intra-oculaire supplémentaire (116) conçue pour être implantée dans l'oeil, en vue de modifier le système optique de l'oeil comprenant la cornée et le cristallin naturel ou une lentille intra-oculaire (104) déjà implantée dans l'oeil, en vue de créer un système optique modifié ayant des capacités télédioptiques ou d'autres capacités diffractives, afin de corriger la dégénérescence de la macula. Afin de créer ce système de lentille télédioptique, on conçoit cette lentille intra-oculaire supplémentaire (116) avec pour ainsi dire aucune puissance de réfraction, à l'exception d'une partie de lentille négative en son centre. Une fois implantée dans le cristallin naturel ou un cristallin artificiel préalablement implanté et utilisée dans l'oeil sans verre optique externe, cette lentille intra-oculaire supplémentaire (116) permet aux rayons lumineux d'arriver sur la rétine de l'oeil comme ils le feraient en l'absence de lentille intra-oculaire supplémentaire, offrant ainsi une vision sans agrandissement et une vision périphérique non restreinte.
