A thin film with a low refractive index and a method of applying a desired thickness of the film to a holder for an optic lens are disclosed. The thin film is formed using a fluroresin having a refractive index that is lower than a refractive index the material from which the holder for the optic lens is formed. For best results the optical thickness of the film is equal to one quarter of the wavelength of the incident light. Several methods of achieving a correct film thickness are disclosed when the temperature and density of a fluroresin solution are known. The advantage of holders for optic lenses coated with a thin film in accordance with the invention is that contrast and brightness are improved and clear, deep images are achieved with optical equipment equipped with the holder.
