The present invention relates generally to novel isolated species of pathogenic bacteria and to immunoreactive molecules which are derived therefrom and their use in compositions of matter such as vaccine preparations. More particularly, the present invention is directed to a new isolated serovar of Leptospira designated as serovar hurstbridge or serogroup Hurstbridge or L. fainei and diagnostic assays therefor. The present invention further provides vaccines compositions which provide for the passive and active vaccination of animal subjects against Leptospira, in particular serovar hurstbridge or serogroup Hurstbridge or L. fainei.

L'invention concerne généralement des espèces isolées nouvelles de bactéries pathogènes et des molécules immunoréactives dérivées de ces dernières ainsi que leur utilisation dans des compositions de matières telles que des préparations vaccinales. L'invention porte plus particulièrement sur un sérovar isolé nouveau de Leptospira, appelé hurstbridge sérovar ou sérogroupe Hurstbridge ou L. fainei et sur des méthodes diagnostiques prévues à cet effet. Elle se rapporte encore à des compositions vaccinales qui permettent la vaccination active ou passive de sujets animaux, contre Leptospira, notamment Hurstbridge sérovar ou le sérogroupe Hurstbridge ou L. fainei.
