The invention relates to a letter opener, especially a manually operated letter opener, which is able to open a standard letter without producing waste. To this end the letter opener comprises a circular knife (3) mounted between two rails (4, 40) and pretensed by spring (7). The diameter of said knife is slightly smaller than double the smallest possible distance between the knife axis and the surface (1) supporting the letter.

L'invention concerne un dispositif pour ouvrir des lettres, pouvant notamment être actionné manuellement et permettant d'ouvrir une enveloppe classique sans production de déchets. A cet effet, ledit dispositif présente un couteau circulaire (3) disposé, en étant sollicité par un ressort, entre deux rails (4, 40), le diamètre du couteau étant légèrement inférieur au double de la distance minimale entre l'axe du couteau et la surface d'appui (1) de la lettre.
