ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Novel fluoride salts of carbon are prepared by contacting with elemental fluorine and Lewis acids selected from the group consisting of BF3, PF5, AsF5, SbF5, TaF5, SiF4, SO3, PtF4, NbF5, VF5, UF6 and TiF4. The salts are in solid form and are useful, for example, as isomerization catalysts for paraffins and in the formation of exfoliated graphite.
