The present invention relates to a holder for securing a licence plate to a vehicle to prevent unauthorized removal of the licence plate. A locking licence plate holder includes a back plate that can be attached to the licence plate mount of a vehicle, a support for securing a bottom edge of a licence plate to the back plate, a pin extending from the front of the back plate for insertion through a hole in the licence plate, and a key activated locking mechanism that can be secured to the shaft of the pin once the licence plate has been installed over the pin and onto the back plate.
