The device described hereafter is designed for the intent of allowing the owner/operator of a motorized vehicle to prevent the display of the vehicle's licence plate numbers/letters. By means of combining a licence plate cover and a fresnel lens the licence plate cover can appear transparent or translucent depending on the observer's angle of view. The licence plate cover will be made of a transparent plastic compound with a lens, also made of a transparent plastic compound, attached to the inside surface. It is the intent of this patent to register Tim Jacobs as the inventor of the licence plate cover which incorporates the use of a fresnel lens inside the licence plate cover which causes translucence when viewed from a predetermined angle. It is the combined use of a licence plate cover incorporated with a specifically designed fresnel lens which makes this new product unique and therefore warranting patent protection. The lens when viewed from a specific angle (and beyond) 'bends' the light causing opacity or translucence to occur in a portion of the lens while the rest remains transparent. (A fresnel lens consists of a series of angled concentric circles moulded into a transparent plastic compound. It is used primarily for purposes of magnification). Alteration to the fresnel lens size or magnification, its distance from the licence plate and the type or size of licence plate cover can alter the amount and angle of initiation of translucence and should be considered obvious to the original inventor.
La présente invention a pour objet un dispositif destiné à permettre à son utilisateur de brouiller la lecture des lettres et des chiffres affichés sur une plaque d'immatriculation de véhicule automobile. En combinant une enveloppe destinée à recouvrir une plaque d'immatriculation à une lentille de Fresnel, l'enveloppe pour plaque d'immatriculation est tantôt transparente, tantôt translucide, selon l'angle de vue de l'observateur. L'enveloppe recouvrant la plaque d'immatriculation est fabriquée d'un mélange de plastique et la lentille, également en plastique, est interposée entre l'enveloppe et la plaque. La paternité de l'enveloppe pour plaque d'immatriculation incorporant une lentille de Fresnel pour limitant la transparence à un angle prédéterminé est revendiquée par M. Tim Jacobs. L'utilisation combinée d'une enveloppe pour plaque d'immatriculation et d'une lentille de Fresnel nommément désignée confère à cette invention son caractère unique et justifie cette demande de protection par brevet. Sous un angle de vue spécifique (et au-delà), la lentille de Fresnel fléchit la lumière, ce qui induit une zone d'opacité ou de translucidité et qui limite la transparence à une portion réduite de la lentille, le reste de la lentille demeurant transparent. (La lentille de Fresnel comporte une série de cercles concentriques réfringents moulés dans une feuille de plastique transparent. Elle est principalement utilisée à des fins de grossissement). Les modifications qui pourraient être apportées au niveau des dimensions de la lentille, de son pouvoir grossissant, ou de sa distance par rapport à la plaque d'immatriculation, ou encore au niveau du type ou des dimensions de l'enveloppe recouvrant la plaque d'immatriculation peuvent avoir une incidence sur le degré de transparence et n'échappent aucunement à l'entendement et à l'intention de l'inventeur.
