A licensing method includes the steps of establishing a licensing vendor; providing an imaging device that uses an imaging media in forming printed images on print media, the imaging media including an initial supply amount of an imaging substance; associating a usage license with at least one of the imaging device and the imaging media, the usage license defining a first usage threshold at which a consumer is prompted to acquire a new license; and providing a license monitoring mechanism communicatively coupled with the imaging device, the license monitoring mechanism performing the steps of tracking an amount of usage of the imaging media by the imaging device; determining whether the amount of usage of the imaging media by the imaging device has reached a usage threshold; and upon reaching the usage threshold, then prompting the consumer to acquire the new license from the licensing vendor.
L'invention concerne une méthode de concession de licence, qui consiste à établir un vendeur de licence ; à fournir un dispositif de traitement de l'image utilisant un support de traitement de l'image dans la formation d'images imprimées sur un support d'impression, le support de traitement de l'image comprenant une quantité initiale d'une substance de traitement de l'image ; à associer une licence de droit d'usage au dispositif de traitement de l'image et/ou au support de traitement de l'image, ladite licence de droit d'usage définissant un premier seuil d'usage au niveau duquel il est demandé au consommateur d'acquérir une nouvelle licence ; et à fournir un mécanisme de contrôle de licence couplé en communication avec le dispositif de traitement de l'image, mécanisme assurant les étapes de suivi de l'ampleur de l'usage du support de traitement de l'image par le dispositif de traitement de l'image ; à déterminer si l'ampleur de l'usage du support de traitement de l'image par le dispositif de traitement de l'image a atteint un seuil d'usage ; et lorsque le seuil d'usage est atteint, à demander à l'utilisateur d'acquérir la nouvelle licence auprès du vendeur de licence.
