A saving apparatus for persons in avalanches has at least one tear-resistant balloon (8) that can be secured next to the body of the user and that in operation is inflated with pressurised gas. A filling apparatus (6) that connects the balloon (8) to at least one pressurised gas container has a device for opening the container and communicates with a filling opening of the balloon (8). The pressurised gas container with the apparatus (6) is directly secured to the body of the user by fastening means, independently of the balloon, or is indirectly secured to the body of the user by his clothing or other objects. The filling apparatus (6) communicates with the filling opening of the balloon through a pressurised gas channel (13, 19, 75, 82) that ensures that the balloon is filled with pure gas.
