A lift-and-pivot door and hinge assembly that includes a door having hinges for mounting the door to pivot with respect to a support wall, such as the front wall of a machine tool guarding. A handle is rotatably mounted on one side of the door, and is coupled by a linkage to an elongated bar that moves vertically within the door as the handle is pivoted about its axis. An arm is pivotably carried by the door, with end of the arm in engagement with a hinge, and with a second end disposed adjacent to the bar. A lever is pivotally mounted to the door with one end in engagement with the arm and the opposing end in engagement with the bar. Rotation of the handle draws the bar downwardly within the door, pivoting the lever against the arm, and causing the arm to lift the door on and with respect to the hinges. In this way, the door is lifted with respect to the hinges and support wall of the cabinet, and then may be pivotally swung on the hinges away from the support wall so as to give access to the interior of the cabinet.
