The present invention relates to a lifting system for raising and transporting large containers of different sizes; this is arranged so as to be moveable on a beam, and incorporates an adjusting system to adapt the interval between the attachment elements to the intervals between the load suspension points on the large containers, and has an elevating system. In order to minimize the installed height of the apparatus and in order to reduce its weight and simplify its design, it is proposed that two vertical guide columns with elevating elements be arranged opposite each other on the elevating carriage that can move along the beams, such that the space between them can be changed and which have, at their lower end, an attachment element.
