A lifting device is provided for use with small vehicles such that at least one end of the vehicle can be supported in raised position for servicing the vehicle without obstructing an undercarriage of the vehicle. The device includes a post supported on a base for rolling movement along the ground. A slide member mounted for longitudinal sliding movement on the post is coupled to a winch for raising or lowering the slide member as desired. A ratchet type stop mechanism is provided for restricting longitudinal movement of the slide member relative to the post at a selected vertical spacing relative to the base within a range of vertical spacings.
