ABSTRACT Cover lifting gear for a cover (3) which can be placed on and raised from a metallurgical vessel (1) by means of a lifting mechanism (19) includes a supporting pillar (2) which carries the cover (3) when raised. In order to effect the raising and lowering of the cover (3) at little constructional expense, the cover (3) is linked to the supporting pillar (2) by way of at least one link quadrangle (4), operable by means of the lifting mechanism (19), of which the fixed link is formed by the supporting pillar (2) and the connecting rod by a part (10) of a cover structure which includes the cover (3) (Fig. 1).
