ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A body lifting apparatus for a wheelchair, the wheelchair having seat secured to the wheelchair for carrying a person in the wheelchair, and frame for supporting the seat, and a body support adapted to be carried by the frame, and movement transmission adapted to be secured to the frame and operable to move one of the body support and the seat relative to the other, whereby the body support or the seat may be initially lying substantially contiguously together and, operation of the movement transmission moving one of the body support and the seat relative to the other whereby to move a person seated on the seat, off the seat, thereby leaving a space between the body support and the seat.
