A light beam heating system for performing local heating includes a source for emitting light, and an optical lens assembly for converging the light from the source onto an object to be heated. A cylinder supplies shielding gas towards the object through a regulator, a valve, and a nozzle. During the light heating operation, the oxygen concentration of the atmosphere around the object is maintained at less than 5%. The shielding gas can be supplied to the object through a temperature regulator so that it is heated to a desired temperature prior to being directed onto the object.
