Light control filters based on combinations of polarizing films to absorb incident light. The filters may me configured to absorb or transmit incident light selectively, depending upon the angular orientation of the light, or absorb and transmit incident light generally. The filters comprise louvers or oriented polarizing particles confined within plates and subjected to intermittant shear forces to change their optical properties.
