A light diffuser (1) for the radial emission of light, which has been fed into the diffuser in axial direction, comprises an optical waveguide (2), which itself comprises a core (20) and a cladding (21). The core of the waveguide is exposed at an active region (200) at the distal end (201). The exposed active region (200) of the core (20) is optically separated from a substance containing scattering particles. In a preferred embodiment, the core (2) is roughened and is embedded in a first layer (3) of an elastic substance, which has a refreactive index similar to the refractive index of the cladding (21) and which does not contain any scattering particles. This first layer (3) is embedded in at least one further, second layer (4) of an elastic substance comprising the scattering particles (40). This substance is surrounded by the outer tube (5).
