This invention pertains to light emitting materials comprising novel ortho-metalated transition metal complexes [C^N]2M(T)(L), comprising chelate dialkylamino-substituted C^N ligands, monodentate neutral ligand (L) having sp~ hybridized N atom and a monodentate anionic ligand (T) chosen among CN,- CNO-, CNS-. It has been surprisingly found that when the metal has bound thereto in addition to substituted orthometalated ligands, both an anion chosen among cyanide, thiocyanate, cyanate, possessing strong .sigma. donor and .pi. acceptor properties, and a monodentate neutral ligand L, as above defined, said ligands advantageously participate in the emission process, significantly shifting emission towards higher energies (blue-shift) and enabling appreciable improvement of the emission efficiency of complexes [C^N]2M(T)(L). Still objects of the invention are the use of said light emitting materials and organic light emitting device comprising said light emitting material.

La présente invention concerne des matériaux émetteurs de lumière comprenant des complexes innovants de métaux de transition orthométallés [C^N]2M(T)(L), comprenant des ligands C^N chélatés dialkylamino-substitués, un ligand neutre monodenté (L) comportant un atome N hybridé sp~ et un ligand monodenté anionique (T) sélectionné parmi les groupes CN-, CNO-, CNS-. L'invention a permis de découvrir de façon surprenante que lorsque le métal s'y est lié en plus des ligands substitués orthométallés, à la fois un anion sélectionné parmi le cyanure, le thiocyanate, le cyanate, présentant de fortes propriétés de donneur .sigma. et d'accepteur .pi., et un ligand neutre monodenté (L), tels que définis ci-dessus, lesdits ligands participant avantageusement au processus d'émission, décalant de façon significative l'émission vers les énergies supérieures (décalage vers le bleu) et permettant une amélioration appréciable de l'efficacité d'émission des complexes [C^N]2M(T)(L). L'invention concerne également l'utilisation desdits matériaux émetteurs de lumière et un dispositif émetteur de lumière organique comprenant ledit matériau émetteur de lumière.
