A b s t r a c t A light-guide unit comprises coaxially disposed a light forming and a light transmitting rods made from a light-perme- able, corrosion-resistant refractory material, in particular from a synthetic corundum. The length of the first of said rods is equal to the thickness of the metallized layer of the lining, and that of the other rod is equal to the non-metall- ized portion of the lining. The rods are connected to each other through a protection sleeve made from a material featur- ing plasticity at the operating temperature of the lining, and are disposed in a tube filled with two different refractor- materials. The tube portion wherein the light forming rod is disposed is filled with a material having a sintering tempera- ture not higher than the sintering temperature of the lining, and whose resistance to action of the products of melting is similar to that of the lining. At the operating temperature of the lining this material has the same linear expansion coeffi- cient as the said rods, and forms a viscous mass which does not fuse with the light forming rod. Silicon oxide powder is used, in particular, as said refractory material. The tube portion wherein the light transmitting rod is disposed is fil- led with a material having a sintering temperature higher than the operating temperature and the sintering temperature of the lining, which refractory material may be, for instance, corun- dum powder. Such construction of the proposed light-guide unit prov- ides for a flexible connection between the component members of the unit, due to which the probability of its being damaged is lower, and the light transmitting rod can be used repeatedly.
