This invention relates to a light-polarizing material containing adsorbed molecular iodine, characterized by a com- plex obtained by reacting (i) elemental iodine, (ii) a hydro- halide acid and/or an ammonium or alkali metal or alkaline earth metal halide, and (iii) a compound which is a pyridine, pyrazine, pyrimidine, quinoline or cycloalkylene derivative, and uses thereof in liquid suspensions, set suspensions and light valves.
