LIGHT SENSING DEVICES WITH LENTICULAR PIXELS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A light sensing semiconductor device is disclosed including an array of light sensing pixels comprised of (1) a semiconductive substrate, at least a portion of which is of a first conductivity type, and laterally spaced regions of a second conductivity type forming within individual pixels a single light sensing portion spaced laterally inwardly from at least two opposed pixel edges and (2) means for transmitting incident light to the light sensing portion including (a) a lens presenting a convex surface capable of receiving light laterally outwardly of the light sensing portion and directing light toward the light sensing portion and (b) a light transmissive portion interposed between the lens and the light sensing portion. In at least one of the pixels the light transmissive portion is comprised of a lens supporting layer having a thickness exceeding that of the lens, the lens is laterally confined on the lens supporting layer and spaced laterally inwardly from at least the two opposed pixel edges, and the lens supporting layer and the lens are formed of different polymers, the supporting layer polymer exhibiting a higher glass transition temperature than the lens polymer and the lens polymer at its glass transition temperature being resistant to wetting the laterally surrounding surface of the lens supporting layer.
