A lightweight insulation blanket (100) for aircraft insulation or the like includes a lofted fibrous batting (106, 114) laminated to a relatively tough or high-tensile sheet of thin material (112), which provides improved handleability and durability to the batting. The high-tensile sheet may be a flexible fire-blocking sheet (118) or non-woven fabric of refractory materials, which may be reinforced by a scrim (116). The batting and laminated fire-blocking sheet may be encased in a protective covering (101).
