Abstract a lighter with a safety mechanism comprising an operating member, a valve opening means, the operating member having an irregular hole at its front end, and two protruded columns on its two sides; a mounting frame inside the lighter body having two guide grooves restricting the movement of the protruded columns; and a resilient member inbetween the operating member and the intermediate mounting frame, capable of exerting a force whose component is in the upward and rearward directions. In normal situation, the valve opening means disengages itself from the gas valve that is normally closed, so that the lighter is in a safety state. When the safety mechanism is damaged, the safety function of the lighter will not be affected.
