A retractable light system for a vehicle having a roof surface, said system having at least one light member adapted to be raised or lowered relative to the roof surface, and being provided with means to effect such raising or lowering, the arrangement being that each light member has an upper surface (14) and a base component (10) into which at least one telescopic component (11, 12) can be retracted.
