A lightweight cementitious composition containing from 10 to 90 volume percent of a cement composition, from 10 to 90 volume percent of particles having an average particle diameter of from 0.2 mm to 8 mm, a bulk density of from 0.03 g/cc to 0.64 g/cc, an aspect ratio of from 1 to 3, and from 10 to 50 volume percent of sand and/or other fine aggregate, where at least a portion of the sand and/or fine aggregate has a fineness modulus of less than 2; where the sum of components used does not exceed 100 volume percent, and where after the lightweight cementitious composition is set it has a compressive strength of at least 1700 psi as tested according to ASTM C39 after seven days. The cementitious composition can be used to make concrete masonry units, construction panels, road beds and other articles.

L'invention concerne une composition cimenteuse légère contenant de 10 à 90 % en volume d'une composition de ciment, de 10 à 90 % en volume de particules présentant un diamètre particulaire moyen compris entre 0,2 mm et 8 mm, une densité de masse comprise entre 0,03 g/cc à 0,64 g/cc, un rapport d'aspect compris entre 1 et 3, et 10 à 50 % en volume de sable et/ou d'un autre agrégat fin, au moins une partie du sable et/ou de l'agrégat fin présentant un module de finesse inférieur à 2. La somme des composants utilisés ne dépasse pas 100 % en volume, et une fois que la composition cimenteuse légère a prise, elle présente une résistance à la compression d'au moins 1700 psi selon le test ASTM C39, après sept jours. La composition cimenteuse de l'invention peut être utilisée pour fabriquer des unités de maçonnerie en béton, des panneaux de construction, des plateformes routières et d'autres articles analogues.
