A method and apparatus for heat treating lime sludge comprising feeding fresh lime sludge into a heated gas dryer (4), separating the dried lime sludge from the gases in a separator (3), directing the separated, dried lime sludge to a compactor (14), and feeding the compacted, dried lime sludge to a shaft kiln (10) wherein the compacted, dried, lime sludge is converted to active burnt lime.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil de traitement thermique de la boue résiduaire de chaux. Le procédé selon l'invention consiste à sécher ladite boue résiduaire de chaux dans un dispositif (4) de séchage à gaz. La boue résiduaire de chaux séchée est ensuite séparée des gaz dans un séparateur (3) puis envoyée dans un moyen de compactage (14) dans lequel elle est compactée. La boue séchée et compactée est envoyée dans un four droit (10) dans lequel ladite boue résiduaire de chaux séchée compactée est transformée en chaux calcinée active.
