LIMITED SLIP DIFFERENTIAL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A limited slip differential for a ground vehicle having at least one friction clutch located between the differential case and a side gear, with dual means which cooperate for urging the clutch into engagement and thus restricting the differential action. The first means for urging the clutch into engagement comprises an axial force exerted on the side gear by a bevel gear on the crossmember of the differential which is in mesh with the side gear. The second means comprises a flat spring housed in a retainer which abuts the crossmember. The flat spring exerts force between the crossmember and the side gear to augment the axial force of the bevel gears in urging the friction clutch into engagement.
