ABSTRACT A limiter amplifier suitable for use in a paging receiver is described. The amplifier does not use coupling capacitors and can therefore be manufactured as a monolithic integrated circuit. Furthermore, it is capable of obtaining a favourable saturation characteristic even when operated by a low-voltage power source such as a single dry battery. Finally temperature variations have virtually no effect on the new amplifier. The amplifier comprises a power supply, two or more cascade-connected differential amplifiers for amplitude limiting and input. Each differential amplifier has a first constant current circuit. A biassing circuit is connected to an input of the cascaded differential amplifiers to supply thereto a biassing voltage. The biassing circuit has a second constant current circuit. A third constant current circuit is provided for activating the first and second constant current circuits. A voltage regulator is connected to the power supply a constant voltage to the three constant current circuits. The voltage regulator has the same characteristic with respect to temperature variations as the three constant current circuits.
