A cartridge (40) for a single handle mixing valve (34) includes a stop limit device for limiting the normal motion of a single handle (16). The stop limit device includes a pivotable control stem (5) and a support component (3). The support component (3) has an external arm (10) with teeth (11) that are yieldable under sufficient force. The control stem (5) has projections (13) mounted within recess (9) in the item. The projections (13) also have teeth (14), which engage teeth (11) to limit motion of the stem (5).
