ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A line equalizer including a ? equalizer for compensating a ?-characteristic of a transmission line, a BT equalizer connected in series with the ? equalizer for removing an echo component caused by a bridged tap (namely, BT) on the transmission line, and a circuit for controlling the ? equalizer is disclosed in which a signal applied to the ? equalizer is subjected to over-equalization to make small the time domain length of inpulse response at the output of the ? equalizer, and in which the equalization state of the output of the ? equalizer is judged by signals formed in the BT equalizer, the gain of the ? equalizer is controlled on the basis of the result of judgement, and thus the ? equalizer is controlled without suffering any interference between a control loop of the ? equalizer and a control loop of the BT equalizer.
