-11- ABSTRACT: This invention provides a low-wattage tungsten-halogen lamp having a solid state diode in the base electrically in series with the filament so that the effective voltage across the filament during operation is substantially less than the effective voltage of the electrical power supplied to the lamp. The inclusion of the diode as a voltage-reducing means permits use of a heavier filament thereby substantially extending the life of the lamp without loss of luminous efficacy or change in wattage. This invention makes possible a new energy-saving tungsten-halogen PAR lamp product with equivalent or improved operating characteristics over its standard incandescent counterpart.
