A linear compressor motor comprising a piston assembly and a cylinder assembly mounted together for relative axial movement along an axis by a pair of spiral springs. The piston assembly includes a piston and the cylinder assembly including a cylinder, there being a low clearance between the cylinder and the piston to enable a pumping action to be achieved without seals. Mounted on the exterior of the cylinder is a magnet and associated polepiece. Forming part of the cylinder assembly is a cylindrical housing in which the cylinder itself is mounted by means of a radially-extending flange. The coil for interaction with the magnet is positioned in an annular air gap between the polepiece and the housing. The coil is wound on a coil holder which is itself mounted on the piston by way of a radially-extending flange. The other radial end of the coil holder is formed with radially extending wings which mount a cylindrical hub which is a clearance fit on the cylinder. The end of the coil holder is castellated to pass across the flange, through suitable apertures in flange. An AC current is applied to the coil to cause relative reciprocatory motion between the piston and cylinder to achieve a pumping action.

Moteur à compresseur linéaire composé d'un ensemble piston (2) et d'un ensemble cylindre (3) assemblés par une paire de ressorts spiraux (16, 17) de manière à pouvoir bouger l'un par rapport à l'autre le long d'un axe (1). L'ensemble piston (2) comporte un piston (6) et l'ensemble cylindre (3) comporte un cylindre (4), un léger jeu entre le cylindre et le piston permettant d'obtenir un effet de pompage sans nécessiter de joints. Sur l'extérieur du cylindre (4) est monté un aimant (13) avec la pièce polaire associée (14). L'ensemble cylindre (3) comprend un carter cylindrique (11) dans lequel le cylindre lui-même est monté au moyen d'une bride radiale (12). La bobine destinée à interagir avec l'aimant est placée dans un espace annulaire entre la pièce polaire (14) et le carter (11). La bobine est enroulée sur un porte bobine (8) lui-même monté sur le piston (6) au moyen d'une bride radiale (7). L'autre extrémité radiale du porte bobine (8) comporte de ailettes radiales (26) montées sur un moyeu cylindrique (25), ce dernier étant ajusté sur le cylindre (4) de manière à comporter un jeu. L'extrémité du porte bobine (8) est crénelée de manière à pouvoir traverser la bride (12) par des ouvertures adaptés (20) ménagées dans la bride (12). Un courant alternatif est appliqué à la bobine pour provoquer un mouvement relatif réciproque entre le piston et le cylindre et produire ainsi un effet de pompage.
