This invention relates to a liner for a paint tray. In particular, the liner of this invention is comprised of a film made of paint-impervious material which has a sufficient perimetrical extent to fit against the interior surface of a paint tray with its perimeter extending over the surrounding side walls of the paint tray and encircling the outer surface of the surrounding side walls. The film near the perimeter releasably grips the outer surface of the surrounding side walls of the paint tray to hold the film in place. In the preferred embodiment, the grip is an elastic band which biases the film near the perimeter towards the outer surface of the surrounding side walls of the paint tray. Moreover, the elastic band is sewn on the film around the perimeter. This invention also discloses a method for lining a paint tray so that it may be reused without the necessity of cleaning formerly used paint from the tray.
