The preferred embodiment of the present invention operates on a system of interconnected gaming machines. In a normal operation mode, the individual machines provide awards to individual players based on the generation of symbol combinations in a first group of symbol combinations. The linked gaming machines are polled by a feature controller to determine whether symbol combinations in a second group of combinations are generated. These symbol combinations in the second group of combinations are accumulated until a level is reached such that a bonus award will be given to the next player whose machine generates a symbol combination within said second group of symbol combinations. The first machine to generate a winning symbol combination within said second group of symbol combinations is given a bonus award. The feature is then reset. The status of the feature is displayed for all players of the linked gaming machines.
La variante préférée de la présente invention s'applique à un système (100) de machines à sous (101, 108) interconnectées auxquelles elle peut conférer globalement et de façon sélective une ou plusieurs caractéristiques actives. La mise en oeuvre desdites caractéristiques peut être fonction de résultats combinés de jeux précédents sur les machines à sous individuelles (101, 108). Il peut s'agir d'un bonus attribué à une combinaison affichée donnée, d'une possibilité accrue de combinaison gagnante ou de toute autre caractéristique modifiant le fonctionnement normal desdites machines (101, 108). La première machine (101, 108), pour afficher un résultat gagnant auquel s'applique la caractéristique se voit attribuer une prime définie dans cette dernière. Ladite caractéristique est ensuite désactivée, et le système retourne en mode de jeur normal jusqu'à une nouvelle activation de la caractéristique. Plusieurs autres caractéristiques sont décrites.
