Methods of creating and enhancing insect resistance in plants by introducing non-plant lipases into plants are provided. Plants with enhanced insect resistance and seed from plants thereof are provided. DNA sequences encoding insecticidal lipases and insecticidal lipase gene products that are useful in the practice of this invention are also provided. The compositions and methods of the invention may be used in a variety of agricultural systems for controlling pests, including propagating lineages of insect-resistant crops and targeting expression of these insecticidal lipases to plant organs that are particularly susceptible to infestation, such as roots and leaves.
L'invention concerne des procédés d'établissement et de renforcement de résistance aux insectes chez les plantes, par introduction de lipases non végétales dans ces plantes. On décrit aussi des plantes à résistance aux insectes renforcée et des semences issues de ces plantes. On décrit encore des séquences d'ADN codant les lipases insecticides et des produits géniques de ces lipases, utiles dans la mise en oeuvre des procédés considérés. Il est possible d'utiliser les compositions et les procédés décrits dans un gamme de systèmes industriels pour la lutte contre les nuisibles, y compris la propagation de lignées de cultures résistant aux insectes et le cible de l'expression de ces lipases insecticides sur des organes de plantes particulièrement sensibles à l'invasion par les nuisibles, du type racines ou feuilles.
