The present invention relates to the field of genes isolated from Arabidopsis that code for enzymes that are involved in -oxidation of very long chain fatty acids, particularly, in conversion of .omega.-hydroxy fatty acid to fatty aldehyde. The invention also includes methods of producing transgenic plants with an altered fatty acid composition. Furthermore, the present invention relates to assays making use of these enzymes as herbicide targets to identify inhibitors of said enzymes, thereby providing herbicidally active compounds.
La présente invention concerne des gènes isolés à partir de Arabidopsis qui codent pour des enzymes qui sont impliquées dans l'oxydation d'acides gras à très longue chaîne, en particulier dans la conversion d'un acide gras hydroxylé en position .omega. en un aldéhyde gras. L'invention concerne également des procédés de production de plantes transgéniques ayant une composition en acides gras modifiée. En outre, la présente invention concerne des essais utilisant ces enzymes comme cibles d'herbicides pour identifier des inhibiteurs desdites enzymes, fournissant de cette manière des composés actifs du point de vue herbicide.
